  In the story of One of Seventeen, the main character Caitlin had a short romantic weekend that led to her marriage to James. Although they consummated their love and commitment before their wedding ceremony the day in the small chapel in Maryland, the book implies that they were wedded first. Because one publisher required that no pregnancy precede the wedding, the original story was tweaked.
